Creating the Pattern

The First Step in Hand-Tooling

The hand-tooled Custom Western Belt pattern of your choice is transferred to the belt strip using a template.  The custom cut belt strip is dampened with a sponge and then the template is transferred by gently tapping the template with a hammer to leave an impression on the dampened leather.  As the pattern repeats, the template is moved down the strip and gently tapped with the mallet.  Once the pattern is transferred along the custom measured strip, each line of the pattern is carefully hand-cut with a swivel-knife.  The swivel-knife must be carefully applied since it ultimately determines the shape of each pattern.
